” When Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that Jesus Was Condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed Innocent Blood.”
“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.” Matthieu 27:3-5
In Matthew 27, Judas was seized with remorse because he delivered The Lord Jesus, handed Him over for thirty pieces of silver; so, he committed suicide. Judas had chosen to follow the path of the devil. Inspired by the evil one, he decided to betray The Lord Jesus to get money. This decision surely seemed attractive to him, considering the amount that it would bring him; But we see that in the end, this money was not useful to him and that he ended up hanging himself. So we notice that Judas succumbed to the devil’s temptation, the desire to get rich and this choice led him to his death.
We, too, are likely to be tempted by the devil. But when he tempts us, we must resist because if we choose the path of easy money, dishonesty, lies, injustice, fornication, adultery, etc. … we choose the way of the devil, and this path, even if it seems attractive in the short term, will lead us to death in the long run. When we choose the devil’s way, we take a step towards eternal fire.
Let us therefore pray constantly and ask The Lord for the strength, determination to follow His Commandments and not fall into the path of the devil.
