“But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”
Esau said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked, “Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?”” Genesis 27:35-36
In Genesis 27, Jacob took the blessing of Esau, his elder brother. This occurred some time after Esau had despised his birthright.
““Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”” Genesis 25,32
I think it was because of Esau’s contempt for his birthright that The Lord allowed Jacob to take his blessing.
From this chapter, we can therefore retain that we must not despise what God gives us. We must learn to be thankful to God for what He gives us and try to use it to the best of our abilities for His Glory. It is useless to covet what others have as Esau did with Jacob’s stew and thereby sold his birthright. This can apply to all areas of our lives (finances, spouses, families, etc …). God knows each one of us and He has created each of us for a specific purpose. He knows what is best for each of us. He has a Wonderful Plan for each of us. Did He not say:
“For I know The Plans I have for you,” declares The Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, Plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Let us learn to appreciate what God gives us, show Him our gratitude for what we have, and use it as best we can for His Glory.
