WHO MAY ASCEND TO THE MOUNTAIN OF THE LORD?
In Psalm 24, King David asks,
” Who may ascend The Mountain Of The Lord? Who may stand in His Holy Place?” Psalm 24:3
The mountain is often seen as the place of meeting with The Lord in The Bible. In The Old Testament, Moses met The Lord on Mount Sinai, and in The New Testament, The Lord Jesus often prayed at the Mount of Olives.
In the case of Mount Sinai, all Israelites were not allowed to ascend there for fear that they would die. Only Moses could approach near to The Lord. Aaron, his sons and elders went up, but saw God from afar.
In Psalm 24, King David tells us the ways we should follow to enter the Presence Of The Lord, so that we can approach Him just as Moses and The Lord Jesus did.
“The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive Blessing from The Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your Face, God of Jacob.”Psalm 24:4-6
Our God is Holy, so to be able to approach Him, we must sanctify ourselves, we must abandon sin. Let us try, with God’s help, to sanctify ourselves by purifying our hearts, avoiding lies, deceit and anything contrary to God’s Commandments, and we will be able to obtain The Grace to approach The Thrice Holy God.
By our own means, we cannot be fully sanctified, but by The Sacrifice Of The Lord Jesus on the Cross we are sanctified, if we believe in Him.
“And by That Will, we have been made holy through The Sacrifice of The Body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:10
We can therefore approach The Father, thanks to The Lord Jesus, by The Holy Spirit, for those who have received Him.
“He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through Him we both have access to The Father by One Spirit.” Ephesians 2: 17-18
