” Then Abraham rose from beside his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites. He said, “I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.” The Hittites replied to Abraham, “Sir, listen to us. You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our tombs. None of us will refuse you his tomb for burying your dead.”” Genesis 23:3-6
In Genesis 23, following the death of Sarah, Abraham asked for some property for a burial site to the people among whom he lived, the Hittites. The Hittites having recognized that Abraham was blessed by The Lord did not hesitate to offer him some property for a burial site; and they were even ready to give it to him for free.
This passage reminds me of Proverbs 16:7, which says:
” When The Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, He causes their enemies to make peace with them.” Proverbs 16:7
The ways of Abraham pleased The LORD, and He caused the Hittites to be well disposed in such a way that they granted Abraham what he asked. As Abraham, let us try to please The Lord so that He will cause every one to behave well with us.
