GENESIS 21 – THE LORD IS FAITHFUL IN HIS PROMISES

“Now The Lord Was Gracious to Sarah as He had said, and The Lord did for Sarah what He had promised.Genesis 21,1

Genesis 21 relates the fulfillment of The Lord’s Promise: the birth of Isaac.
This shows us that The Lord Is Faithful, He does not forget His Promises to us. What He promises, He accomplishes in His time. Sarah bore Isaac exactly at the time set by God.

“Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.” Genesis 21,2

So we can see that God is not late in the fulfillment of His Promises. He acts at the time He has fixed beforehand. Sometimes we fall into doubt when we wait for a long time, because we do not know the time set by God. It is therefore important for us to rely on our faith, based on concrete examples such as that of Sarah, which shows us that God acts in His Hour.
Moreover, the birth of Isaac shows us that nothing is impossible with God. At the announcement of Isaac’s birth, Sarah had laughed because she did not believe that it was possible for her to give birth at her old age; on the other hand, after Isaac’s birth, her mocking laughter changed into a laugh of joy because she then knew that God could do the impossible.

“Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” Genesis 21: 6-7

Similarly, when we go through situations that seem hopeless to us, let’s turn to The God of the impossible and He will surprise us in His Time.
However, God most often acts in favor of those who follow His Ways. Like Abraham, who was a man who walked according to God’s Ways, we too must walk according to God’s Ways, by following His commandments.
In Genesis 21, Abraham shows us his respect for God’s Covenant by circumcising Isaac on the eighth day as God had commanded him.

” When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.” Genesis 21,4

Like Abraham, let us be faithful to God by respecting His Commandments and He will Be Faithful to us.
