MATTHEW 19 – MANY WHO ARE FIRST WILL BE LAST AND MANY LAST WILL BE FIRST

“But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” Matthew 19,30

In Matthew 19, The Lord Jesus tells us that many of those who are first in this world will be last in the world to come, so will not inherit Eternal Life and many of the last of this world will be first in the world to come and therefore will inherit Eternal Life.

We live in a world in which many want to occupy the first place, be it in professional, academic or even religious settings. Already, from the youngest age, those who get the first rank in class are rewarded. So we grow with this culture of first rank.

Today, The Lord Jesus tells us that to occupy the first place in this world does not guarantee us Eternal Life. We can be first in class, CEOs, presidents of country in this world and be condemned to burn in a raging fire in the world to come.

However, occupying the first place is not a bad thing if to achieve it we respect The Rules of The Kingdom Of God, God’s Commandments.
If The Lord Jesus tells us that many of the first will be last it is because many first do no follow God’s Commandments.

On the other hand, The Lord Jesus also tells us that many last will be first, because many of those who are poor, who do not occupy high positions in this world follow God’s Commandments. So even if they are last in this world, they will inherit Eternal Life in the world to come.

My dear Christian friends, let us not only seek to be first in this world, but also seek, and even more, to be first in the world to come.
