GENESIS 19 – THE LORD WILL SEPARATE THE RIGHTEOUS FROM THE WICKED

“The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you? Get them out of here, because we are going to destroy this place. The outcry to The Lord against its people is so great that He has sent us to destroy it.” Genesis 19:12-13

Genesis 19 tells the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah because of the grievous sin committed by the inhabitants of these cities. In this chapter, we see the attempt of the inhabitants of Sodom to practice homosexuality with the Angels Of God, despite the opposion of Lot, who even offered his daughters instead. It is clear that these inhabitants did not fear God and this is seen by their practice of homosexuality, which is a sin and is reprehensible in God’s Eyes. The inhabitants of this city therefore voluntarily opposed God’s Will, hence God’s Decision to destroy them.
However, before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah with burning sulfur, God’s Angels brought Lot and his family out of Sodom.
It will be the same at the end of time. Just like Lot and his family came out of Sodom before its destruction, the righteous ones, those who follow Christ, will be separated from the wicked ones before the destruction of the latter by a raging fire. As illustrated by the parable of the weeds (Matthew 13), the righteous and the wicked live together, just like Lot lived with the wicked in Sodom, but The Lord, Who saw everything and searched the hearts, had been able to spot Lot because of his behavior, which was different from that of the inhabitants of the city, as we have seen in Genesis 19.
We too, like Lot, must try to walk in a way that is pleasing in God’s Eyes, by following His Commandments, regardless of the environment in which we are. For if we choose to conform ourselves to the evil practices of the world, we will be consumed by a raging fire at the end of time. But if we rather choose to walk according to God’s Commandments, to follow Christ, The Lord Jesus will lead us to Him and The Father. It is now that we have to make that choice!
