MATTHEW 16 – LOSING TO WIN OR WINNING TO LOSE

” Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” Matthew 16: 24-26

In Matthew 16, The Lord Jesus invites His disciples to deny themselves to follow Him. Indeed, to follow The Lord Jesus, we must deny our will, our own interests, to do The Will Of God. For some, doing their own will to save their lives, or gain the world, regardless Of God and His Commandments, seems to be profitable to them, seems to be a gain. But The Lord Jesus makes us understand that this gain is in fact a loss, because following our own will for our own interests, without following The Way Of God, usually leads us to our own destruction, to the loss of our soul. It is up to each of us to ask himself/herself what is more important : lose one’s life and win Eternal Life or win the world and lose one’s soul. While knowing that in general, a loss on this earth is only temporary for children Of God because God takes care of His own and  work for their good.
