“So she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”
Abram agreed to what Sarai said.” Genesis 16:2
In Genesis 16, on the advice of his wife Sarai, Abram followed a path that was not That Of God. God had made Him The Promise to give him an heir who would be a son who is his own flesh and blood; but, in no case had He told him that this heir would not come from his wife. Following Sarai’s advice, Abram turned away from The Path Of God by agreeing to go to Sarai’s slave. And we see the consequences that this had on their couple. This created tension because of the contempt of Sarai’s slave.
Similarly, in our daily lives, as Christians, we must follow The Way of God, His Commandments, and The Teachings Of Christ, but the devil will try to turn us away from That Path. Sometimes he will use people close to us, as it was the case for Abram. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and ask The Lord for discernment in order to always follow His Way, so that we may avoid harmful consequences.
I also want to add that the case of Abram and Sarai is similar to that of Adam and Eve. In both cases, God addressed His Word to man (Adam in one case and Abram in the other) and it was because of the advice of woman that man turned away from It. Just to say that women, as counselors of their husbands, must pray a lot to be able to give them guidance that goes along with The Will Of God. May The Lord help us to always walk according to His Way.
