“What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” Matthew 15:11
The Pharisees and the teachers of The Law were shocked by these Words Of The Lord Jesus because it was important for them to wash their hands, so to purify them before eating their meals. For their purification, they were concerned with the external aspect, but forgot the inside. By These Words, The Lord Jesus tries to make them understand that the true origin of impurity is the inside, it is the heart because it is from it that comes what defiles man such as evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander.
Therefore, to purify ourselves from what defiles us, The Lord Jesus shows us that we must purify our hearts. This is what is important, not handwashing. So let us rid our hearts of all that prevents us from truly loving so that we may be well disposed to receive The Holy Spirit and bear fruit for The Glory of God.
