MATTHEW 5 – THE BLESSED

I read Matthew 5 and I stopped on the beatitudes. The Lord Jesus made a list of some traits that the heirs of The Kingdom of Heaven possess. As Christians, we should try to develop these traits of character. I dwelt on just a few.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is The Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:3

The Lord invites us to be poor in spirit, humble. Humility is a trait often mentioned in The Bible. As Christians, it is important to be humble. Humility is the basis for any repentance / conversion because we must be humble to acknowledge our sins, and admit the need to be saved and go to Jesus Christ , The Savior.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown Mercy.” Matthew 5:7

We Christians, as forgiven sinners, need to be as merciful toward our brothers and sisters. Besides, when we pray “Our Father”, do we not say “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”? So let us try to be generous in forgiveness, and The Lord will also Be The Same with us.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is The Kingdom of Heaven.” Matthew 5:10

We serve a God of Justice; Therefore, as Christians, we must be fair in our decisions and our actions towards our neighbor.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 27:8

Christians should try to get rid of everything that pollutes their hearts, such as bitterness, hatred, rancor, selfishness, jealousy, malice … A black heart full with hatred can’t receive The God of Love, Goodness and Mercy.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children Of God.” Matthew 5:9

Christians must be peacemakers. They should avoid as much as possible quarrels, fights …

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in Heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ” Matthew 5:11-12

As Christians, we are disciples Of Christ, Ambassadors Of Christ. So we must not be afraid to promote His Name and His Teachings. And even if we are persecuted, we must know that persecution of this present time are nothing compared to what awaits us in the Kingdom of Heaven.
