MATTHEW 4 – RESISTING THE TEMPTER LIKE CHRIST DID

Inspired by my reading of Matthew 4, I meditated on the theme “Resisting the temper like Christ did”.

The devil, the tempter, is real; and he has many tricks up his sleeve to lead us away from The Way Of God. Do not forget what he did in Genesis. Remain vigilant because he can attack us even when we are not expecting and when we are fragile. In chapter 4 of Matthew’s Gospel, the tempter came to The Lord Jesus when He was Hungry after fasting for 40 days and 40 nights. The tempter knew that The Lord was hungry, so he asked Him to change stones into bread. The devil knows our weaknesses and he can use them against us.
He also knows well The Word and can use it to trap us as it was the case in Matthew 4.
And finally, the last temptation was the promise of kingdoms of the world and their splendor. Do not forget that the devil is the prince of the world. So he will try to offer us material riches and glory to turn us away from God. How to resist attacks from the tempter?
Like The Lord Jesus Christ did, we must rely on The Word of Life, which is one of the weapons against the tempter. We can notice that each time the devil tried to tempt The Lord Jesus, He resisted using The Word.

“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on Every Word that comes from The Mouth Of God.’”” Matthew 4:4

This verse demonstrates the importance of The Word of Life, True Spiritual Food that strengthens the soul. We must strive to be nourished by it in order to resist the tempter. In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul gives us the full armor Of God to fight against the devil. We need to know how to use it!

“Finally, be strong in The Lord and in His Mighty Power. Put on The Full Armor Of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the Heavenly Realms. Therefore put on The Full Armor Of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with The Belt of truth buckled around your waist, with The Breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from The Gospel of Peace. In addition to all this, take up The Shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take The Helmet of Salvation and The Sword of The Spirit, which is The Word Of God.
And pray in The Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:10-18
